Guardians

In order to make HonorAir both enjoyable and memorable for our Henderson County World War II Veterans, we had guardians, or escorts, to facilitate the trips. Guardians accompanied the veterans on the trip and assisted with any physical or health needs and limitations. The cost for this trip was $300, and Guardians were expected to personally escort two to three veterans for the entirety of the day.

HonorAir provided three one-day trips in the fall of 2006 and three more in 2007. Our sixth and last trip was on September 22, 2007, and was the anniversary of our first trip the year before. The participants traveled by chartered aircraft from Asheville, NC to Reagan Washington National Airport, where they boarded motor coaches and traveled to the Washington Mall to tour the World War II Memorial and enjoyed a box lunch. There was an opportunity to tour the Korean War Veterans, Vietnam Veterans, and Iwo Jima Memorials. If time permited, a short visit or slow, respectful coach tour of Arlington National Cemetery on their return to Reagan Airport was be made.
